When families first hear about the Jewish Education Center of Nashua (JECoN), the question we hear most often is:
“So… is this a fancy name for Hebrew School?”
The short answer? No. It’s so much more.
Albert Einstein once said, “The only source of knowledge is experience.” At JECoN, that’s exactly how we approach Jewish learning. Instead of memorizing facts or sitting at desks, our learners experience Judaism—in ways that are meaningful, creative, and joyful.
Why We Don’t Call It Hebrew School
We’ve chosen a different name because JECoN is built on a bigger vision:
Yes, Hebrew is part of what we do—it links Jews across time and space through prayer, song, texts, and conversation. But at JECoN, language is just one doorway into a much richer Jewish life.
What Kids Experience at JECoN
Jewish learning comes alive here in ways that stick with kids long after a learning session is over:
It isn’t “Hebrew School” Because It Doesn’t Feel Like School
For many children, “school” means strict rules, homework, long lectures, and sitting still. JECoN feels completely different. With our voice-and-choice approach, kids explore Judaism in the ways that light them up—whether through art, music, nature, science, drama, or hands-on projects.
Instead of being told what Judaism is, they get to discover what Judaism means to them.
Growing With Your Child
At JECoN, children aren’t just students—they’re explorers, creators, and valued members of a joyful Jewish community. From the earliest learners through their teen years, kids shape their own Jewish journeys, while being supported, inspired, and celebrated at every step.
And that’s why we don’t call it “Hebrew School.”
What happens here is bigger, deeper, and more joyful than simply learning Hebrew. It’s about helping children—and families—build a Jewish life filled with purpose, joy, and peace.
