Afternoon High Holy Day Gatherings

We know that not everyone will find all parts of the High Holy Day experience this year through our morning services, whether online or in person. We wanted to offer more ways to interact with each other. We wanted to offer a way for people who can't be together in a large group to have some way to see in person other members of the Jewish community.

Some people will want to make one of these your main "services" experience instead of the mornings, and some will use these to add to the morning services.

We are offering:

  • outside brief gatherings on the first day of Rosh Hashanah and on Yom Kippur, with a few prayers from the service sung by a leader (or played off a phone), followed by guided individual reflection
  • tashlich services on the second day of Rosh Hashanah by different streams -- throwing our bread crumbs into the water to be carried away, with readings, the shofar, and time for guided individual reflection
  • a longer version of tashlich led by Rabbi Jon, with more prayers drawn from the service woven in
  • a mindful prayer walk on the first day of Rosh Hashanah to awaken our senses to God's presence, incorporating blessings, mindful walking, hit'bodedut (personal prayer of the heart) in the woods and fields of a local nature preserve
  • Rosh Hashanah drum circle -- looking at a couple of prayers and drumming to them, creating our own rhythms, since we can't sing together
  • online informal discussion with Rabbi Jon most days, framed by a couple of traditional prayers

If you're interested in the small group outdoor gatherings, make sure to register even if you're not sure you'll come.
