Shushan Drum Circle With Sharon Spivak

Saturday, February 27, 2021 15 Adar 5781

10:00 AM - 11:00 AM

And Miriam the prophetess, the sister of Aaron, took a timbrel in her hand and all the women went out after her with timbrels and with dances. (Exodus 15:20)

Premiere of the Shushan Drum Circle on Saturday, February 27, at 10:00 am in 5 Raymond St., across the street from the main building.

1) What’s a Drum Circle you ask? Good question!

It is a circle of people who are spiritually energized by percussion. It’s as few as two and as many as can safely sit in a room right now. It is said that the drum is considered a powerful musical instrument since its sound creates a mesmerizing, spiritual and soul-awakening effect.

2) Are only women allowed to participate?

😊 No. We’ve moved beyond Miriam’s time. 😉 Everyone is welcomed! 3) How does it work?

A member of the circle sets an original beat, then others join in with variations of the same beat layering it over the existing beat - an orchestra of beats, if you will. Example: 1)BEAT-BEAT-BEAT-BEAT/ 2)ba-beat, ba-beat, ba-beat, ba-beat,/3)BA- beatBEATbeatBA-beatBEATbeat BA-beatBEATbeat, and on and on! The options are endless and the layering is addictive.

3) What if I don’t have a drum?

There will be one or two drums available, but one can also bring anything that makes a sound - tambourine, pot, pan, wooden spoons, cardboard box, etc.
