More Than Chicken Soup: Jewish Herbalism With Rivka Schwartz

Thursday, January 20, 2022 18 Shevat 5782

6:00 PM - 7:30 PM

There was a lot more to health practices in Jewish communities in Eastern Europe than chicken soup.   (Not to discount that a good bone broth is excellent for health.  Looks like those women were onto something.)

Who were the healers in the Jewish communities of Eastern Europe?  What were some of the attitudes, beliefs, practices and remedies prevalent in the Ashkenazi Jewish communities?

After taking a quick journey through 4000 years of Jewish healing in the many countries Jews lived, we’ll take a deeper look into the health practices of the last 400 years in Eastern Europe. I’ll also present some ideas and recipes of how to incorporate these into modern health practices, starting in the home.

TBA Member Rivka Schwartz has loved plants and the outdoors since childhood, and Jewish learning and living has always been a passion. Rivka completed a two-year course in herbal medicine and continued on to advanced clinic studies. She studied as the Mayo Clinic where she was certified as a Wellness Coach. Over the past twenty years, she has been helping people using natural medicine and taught about wellness and diet. Rivka has been an environmental educator for children and adults, including locally at Beaver Brook Association in Hollis. Learn more about her work at healthnhearth.com.
